Chess & Girls 2023

CHESS & GIRLS 2023

Queens, on route for the crown! We are looking for the next Swiss chess girl champion!

CONTEXT

  • In March 2021, La Garde du Roi launched the CHESS & GIRLS project for the first time and set up a program adapted to girls offering them the possibility of gaining confidence and practicing chess as a competitive sport.
  • In August 2022, during the 1st qualifying tournament of the Swiss Chess Championship, a player from the La Garde du Roi club, Anna Rosset, aged of 8 years old  (with 7 points / 7 rounds) obtained a rare performance by accumulating 3 prizes in 1: the first prize in the U10 category, the best girl in the U10 category and the best player of La Garde du Roi in the U10 category.

BENEFITS

  • Our school club La Garde du Roi attaches particular importance to encourage girls to play chess. The coaches are convinced that the integration of a chess club from an early age and specific training for girls increases the chances of winning titles at national/international level.
  • Studies also show that the game of chess can contribute significantly to boosting girls’ confidence in their career orientation and better preparing them to compete later in the labor market for professions considered “for men” such as: mathematics, engineering, science and technology.
